Do You Need Your Slimming Club?
Is there a difference between people who slim at home and people who join a club or group?
People who try to slim at home, and I mean try, have all the right intentions, but often fail.
This can be due to family life, cooking different meals, people coming home at different times etc but most of all starvation of encouragement of family and friends.
However, at a group, we are all equal. We are all here for the same reason.
We are all overweight, some of us a little, some of us a lot. It doesnt really matter we are all still overweight.
Being in a group we get encouragment and support from each other and of course your Group Leader is always there for you when you need her.
Seeing people lose weight in our group can make us more determined to carry on when the going gets tough.
The people who succeed with dieting have an important characteristic in common.
Obviously, as we mentioned, support from others is the main one. Research findings show that people who enrol into a group often do better than people who go to see a therapist or diet on their own.
Besides the group encouragement, it appeared that by being weighed weekly by someone else and attending a class each week, they did not slip back into their old ways.
They also made a more conscious effort. It’s a well known fact that when you are at your ideal weight or fast approaching it, you feel healthier, fit and more confident.
Many people who succeed in losing weight say that one of the key aspects of slimming and keeping their weight down in the future, which is as important as slimming in the first place, is the ability to make overall changes in their life style.
We learn to enjoy eating in a different way.
It’s all too easy for an attempt at slimming to turn into misery and despair which is repeated over and over again.
Yet to change one’s behaviour to pursuing a healthier life style can be immensely rewarding. Success for some people is just finding the right recipe for change and once the change has been made, there is no going back.
